In the harsh and unforgiving world of work, one of the best ways of coping with it all is having solidarity with your coworkers. Admittedly, this isn’t always easy, but at the end of the day you probably have more in common with them than you do the big boss. This is especially true when it comes to getting penalized. In most jobs, nobody is truly safe from an impromptu firing and often favoritism and office politics can play a role. This is something that has come to the viral attention of Twitter recently, after one daughter shared her father’s workplace antics. Claiming he had been caught sleeping on the job but managing not to get canned because of it, he apparently texted a former colleague who had been fired for the same thing, telling her to sue. Most people felt they had no choice but to respect his attitude. Everybody deserves a chance.

The dining room is filled with laughter and scrumptious aromas that emerge from the steaming roasted chicken sitting in the middle of the table. The mashed potatoes, fluffy and dotted with chives, sit beside the cooked vegetables. Your wife is sitting beside you, a satisfied smile playing on her lips as she takes a bite of the meal you two cooked up together. You had spent the afternoon prepping, giggling as you chopped carrots and argued playfully about the ‘correct’ level of garlic in certain dishes.But food isn’t the only thing you have been cooking up… you have some dad jokes at the ready, and you’re simply waiting for the perfect time to whip them out. Your kids are sitting across from you, blissfully unaware of the hilarity that is about to befall them. You rub your hands together gleefully as you prepare your first joke. “Ahem”, you clear your throat, “If your house is cold, just stand in the corner”.Everyone looks up at you, confused. Then you boom, “It’s always 90 degrees there!”, and laugh hysterically as you hear a collected groan. It’s a good day to be a dad! What’s in a name? A lot, it turns out. Names carry so much baggage with them and it’s on the parents to anticipate that ahead of time. Because your baby isn’t going to be a baby forever. One day, they’ll be an adult, and walk into a job interview with that dumb name you gave them on their resume. And you hope they succeed in spite of it. But even seemingly normal names can hold a lot of weight. I don’t know why, but I’ve never gotten along with somebody named Victoria. Even the name sends a chill down my spine. But what’s worse than an objectionable name? No name at all. That’s the stuff of horror movies. But that’s what’s threatening to happen in this recent story from Reddit, where a couple’s argument over a baby name is spelling disaster for their family. Read on and decide whose side you’re on. 

Call me a tree hugger, but trees are our friends. They provide so much for us that it’s hard to overstate. Shade, clean air, housing for wildlife, not to mention increasing our property values. And trees famously don’t grow overnight. Most of them are far older than us, and some of them are tens of thousands of years old. They are our ancestors and can teach us things about our world that we’re still too young to know. So all that said, it takes a lot of ego and self-importance to cut them down, especially if they’re not hurting anyone. But that’s exactly what happened to this helpless group of homeowners when an HOA went on a grassroots deforestation rampage. The tree lovers were left in a bind, heating up from the lack of shade and mourning their tree friends. Commenters had some choice words for the HOA and left some ideas for how to clean up the mess. 

Another work week is coming to an end, and just like every week, I cannot wait for the weekend. While I let myself relax for the weekends that have come and gone these past few months, I have now decided to make specific plans for my Saturdays and Sundays to make sure that I really take advantage of my time off. It seems now that the days feel much longer, with the sun only setting at around 8 pm every day, I have a much stronger will to seize the day and enjoy the outside. Plus, the warm weather does not hurt either.
